I never imagined that a five-second warning from a homeless teenager would expose the truth about my twenty-two-year marriage.
He returned my phone, glanced nervously across the gas station, and whispered, “Your husband has been paying me to follow you.”

David had installed a new lock on his home office while I was working. I had also found a business card in his coat belonging to an attorney who specialized in guardianship and estate law.

Then he looked toward the entrance of the parking lot and stepped closer.
“Please don’t get into your car yet.”
His voice was so serious that I stopped moving.
“My husband is paying you to watch me?” I repeated after he told me.
The boy nodded.
His name was Marcus.
