The Suspicious Air Vent
Slowly, the girl raised her hand and pointed toward the air vent on the wall. At first glance, the vent appeared ordinary—metallic and slightly worn, nothing unusual.
However, the intensity of the child’s focus prompted Mallory to take a closer look. He knelt beside the vent and examined the screws, noticing they were loose.
When he asked the mother whether the vent had ever been removed, she replied that it had not, to her knowledge.
Sensing something was wrong, Mallory decided to inspect the space behind the vent.
A Hidden Shaft Inside the Walls
After removing the vent cover, Mallory shined his flashlight into the opening. Initially, it appeared to be standard ductwork.
But as the beam moved deeper, he realized the space extended beyond simple ventilation. There was a hollow cavity large enough for a person.
Backup units were immediately called to the scene. Further examination revealed that the home, built in the 1940s, contained old service shafts once used for utilities and mechanical systems.
The vent opened directly into one of these unused vertical passages.
Evidence of Someone Living Inside the Structure
When officers widened access to the shaft and illuminated the interior, the discovery was deeply unsettling.
