1• Marinate the chicken:
In a large bowl or zip-top bag, add the chicken pieces and buttermilk. Mix well, cover, and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or overnight for deeper flavor and tenderness.
2• Preheat the oven:
Set your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and lightly grease it with oil spray or cooking spray.
3• Prepare the seasoned flour:
In a large bowl, combine the flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, thyme, basil, salt, black pepper, and cayenne (if using).
4• Coat the chicken:
Remove the chicken from the buttermilk, letting the excess drip off. Dredge each piece in the seasoned flour until fully coated. Gently shake off the excess flour.
5• Arrange for baking:
Place the coated chicken pieces on the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between each
6• Bake to perfection:
Bake in the preheated oven for 40 to 45 minutes, flipping halfway through, until the chicken is golden-brown and reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (75°C).
