It took me a few minutes to find the marker with Arthur’s name.
I stood there for a while.
Then I reached into my pocket.
Pulled out a ten-dollar bill.
And placed it gently at the base of the stone.
“I found you, too, just as you found me.”
The words felt strange, but right.
I stood there for a while.
I stood there a little longer, then turned to leave.
But before I walked away, I glanced back once more.
For years, I believed I couldn’t afford kindness, that it would cost me too much.
I was wrong.
Because sometimes… it doesn’t disappear.
