I was eight months pregnant with our long-awaited baby when my husband arrived at the baby shower with his 22-year-old mistress. When I told them to leave, he sh0:ved me aside, causing me to fall against the gift table.

Beatrice’s hand flew to the brooch as Arthur stared at me.

“It contains a camera, microphone, and live connection to federal investigators. They heard everything, including your conversation about the offshore accounts.”

Arthur’s face lost all color.

“What have you done?”

Before I could answer, federal agents entered the mansion with search and arrest warrants.

“FBI! Nobody move!”

Guests backed away as investigators secured the room, collected phones, and blocked every exit. Senior Special Agent Marcus Thorne came directly to me and knelt beside the ruined decorations.

“Clara, we received the audio. Are you hurt?”

“The baby. Julian pushed me. I need a hospital.”

Thorne called for paramedics. While they checked me, other agents began reading charges. Arthur tried to regain control.

“I am Arthur Vance. This is private property.”

“Save it. No one leaves.”

Beatrice protested as an investigator removed the brooch and sealed it as evidence.

“You cannot treat us this way. Do you know who our lawyers are?”

“Your lawyers are receiving search warrants at their offices right now.”

Thorne turned to Arthur.

“Arthur Vance, you are under arrest for racketeering, wire fraud, theft, and conspiracy to evade hundreds of millions of dollars in taxes.”

Arthur’s confidence finally broke.

“You don’t have the records. Those companies are invisible.”

“They were,” I said as the paramedics lifted me onto a stretcher. “Until I copied your ledgers. Every bribe, false claim, and offshore transfer is stored on a federal server.”

Julian stared at me as though he had never seen me before.

“Clara, please. We can fix this. I didn’t mean to hurt you.”

Agent Thorne stepped between us.

“Do not go near her.”

He opened another warrant.

“Julian Vance, you are under arrest for corporate fraud, forgery, and assault.”

Agents restrained him before he could approach me. Chloe moved toward the patio doors, but an investigator blocked her path.

“I had nothing to do with their business. I’m only his girlfriend.”

The investigator raised a tablet.

“We have recordings of you discussing money routed through Julian’s shell company.”

Chloe’s confidence vanished.

“He told me it was legal.”

As the paramedics wheeled me toward the ambulance, I looked back once. Arthur was being questioned beside his grand piano. Beatrice sat speechless on the rug. Chloe was surrounded by investigators, and Julian watched me with panic replacing every trace of arrogance. Their dynasty was collapsing in front of the people they had invited to admire it.

Inside the ambulance, a paramedic checked the monitor.

“The baby’s heartbeat is strong.”

I rested my hand over my belly.

“It’s Clara now. Not Mrs. Vance.”
