Part Two of the Story… 👇
Infidelity consequences and hospital confrontation
The silence that stretched across that sterile, brightly lit hospital corridor was deafening. My wife, Sarah, stood by the reception desk, her face pale, clutching her overnight bag. Just thirty feet behind me, Maya, my mistress, was sitting in a wheelchair, breathing heavily through a contraction, her hand reaching out toward me. I was trapped in the exact center of a nightmare I had spent eight long months trying to outrun.
Sarah’s eyes locked onto mine. At first, there was confusion in her gaze—the look of a woman who had just been told her husband was leaving the state on an emergency business trip, only to find him standing in the exact same local hospital where she had come to give birth. But as her eyes shifted past my shoulder toward Maya, and then back to my panicked, sweating face, the confusion hardened into a cold, sharp realization. The pieces of the puzzle I had so carefully hidden for nearly a year were clicking together in her mind in a matter of seconds.
Maya, unaware of the woman at the desk, called out again, her voice strained with pain. She asked me why I was just standing there and begged me to come over to help her with the admission paperwork. Every eye in the corridor, from the admissions nurse to the orderly pushing Maya’s wheelchair, seemed to turn toward me. I couldn’t move. My feet felt glued to the linoleum floor. The air left my lungs, and for a terrifying second, I thought I might actually pass out.
