Javier did not deny it.
And in that honesty, there was something almost more painful than if he had tried to lie.
“I came back because I couldn’t carry it anymore,” he said.
“And because you deserved to know.”
I stood there, watching my children face the man who had shaped their lives without being part of them, and I realized something I had not expected.
The truth was not enough.
It never had been.
Now the choice was ours.
To accept him.
To reject him.
To forgive.
Or to hold onto the past in a way that protected what we had built without him.
I looked at each of them, waiting, knowing that whatever happened next would change everything, not just for him, but for us as well.
