Salisbury Steak with Onion Gravy

In a bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, diced onion, salt, and pepper. Form into thick oval patties.

Heat oil or butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Brown the patties on both sides until nicely seared, then remove them to a plate.

In the same pan, add the sliced onion and mushrooms. Cook until softened and lightly browned. Sprinkle in the flour and stir for a minute to cook it.

Slowly whisk in the beef broth, then add Worcestershire sauce and thyme. Let the gravy simmer until it thickens.

Return the patties to the pan, spoon the gravy over them, cover, and cook on low heat until the steaks are fully cooked and tender.

Serve with mashed potatoes and plenty of onion gravy over the top.
