Paige inhaled sharply.
Even Judge Calder paused.
Adrian leaned toward his attorney. “This is irrelevant to custody.”
That word, custody, pulled me back to the only reason any of this mattered.
“Your Honor,” I said, “I am not here to punish Adrian. I am here because he filed for primary custody claiming I have no financial stability, no professional background, and no meaningful contribution to the family business. Those claims are false.”
The judge nodded slowly.
Then he asked the question I had been waiting for.
“Mrs. Lane, where have you and the children been living since the separation?”
“In a rented townhouse near their school.”
“Who pays the rent?”
“I do.”
“With what income?”
